If your projects rely on photos, then an efficient management system is essential if you want to complete your work in good time. There are numerous image managers out there, but Tropy is designed specifically for research projects. It doesn't come with a huge number of features, like other similar applications, but the features it does offer are very well implemented and the controls make any task a breeze. The software lets you tag images, read their metadata, mark them in different ways and attach notes to individual pictures, which can help you locate the items you need a lot faster and easier.

You can use Tropy on any modern 64-bit Windows system. It comes in a small package, so you can download it and install it in under a minute. There are no special requirements you have to meet and you don't need powerful hardware to run the application. Also, Tropy is offered completely free of charge.

When launched, the application will ask you to name your first project, after which it will present its main user interface. At this point, you can just drag and drop all your images onto the interface to import them. They are displayed in a list, along with the date on which they were added, but you can also switch to a thumbnails view.

When you select an image, you can view and edit its metadata, add tags, preview the photo and attach notes, on the right side of the interface. Editing metadata or adding tags is a simple matter of filling in the right input fields. Created tags appear on the left side of the interface and you can select them to filter your pictures collection.

If you decide to create a note for a specific picture, a text editing environment will slide in from the right side, where you can type your text and change its font and paragraph settings. What's more, the picture corresponding picture will show up above the text editor, along with a few simple transformation options, as well as a series of visual adjustments sliders, for brightness, contrast and so on.

If you need to keep track of a large number of pictures, for research purposes or other projects, Tropy can make your work as easy and comfortable as possible.

Pros

You can import pictures, tag them and edit their metadata on the fly. The software comes with a built-in text editor, for attaching notes to images. You can also make a few simple visual adjustments to your images.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to mention.
